by Brianna Crandall — July 5, 2013—Skyline Design recently announced both the opening of its first permanent Chicago Showroom in the Merchandise Mart in Chicago, and the honor of receiving two Best of NeoCon Gold Awards at NeoCon 2013 from Contract Magazine. Skyline Design launched its Digital Glass Portfolio at the NeoCon 2013 contract furnishings show at the Merchandise Mart June 10-12, winning best product in both the Wall Treatments and Surfacing Materials/Finishes categories.
The Skyline Digital Glass Portfolio offers a selection of images for digital printing on glass by eight commissioned artists, photographers, and designers from across the United States, that transform public spaces by uniting creative visions with the architectural potential of glass. The initial launch represents the first phase of an ever-growing collection, with the work of new artists to be added.
Skyline Design is proud to build on its history of creating collaborative partnerships with celebrated artists, architects, designers and photographers, to realize their creative visions on a large scale with architectural glass. For the Digital Glass Portfolio, Doug Fogelson, Bryan Nash Gill, Bill Sosin, and Herman Yu have drawn inspiration from the natural world, creating patterns and textures based in sources as varied as raindrops, tree rings, and skeletal winter branches. Other artists, including Jim Krantz, Anne Lindberg, Sonnenzimmer, and Thirst, redefine manmade elements—fabrics, letters, symbols—into immersive environments.
The variety of images and styles—linear, textural, playful, organic—offer a range of a range of scales and transparencies, suitable for corporate and healthcare environments. With its AST Digital Glass Printing technology, Skyline is playing a leading role in uniting aesthetic sensibilities with innovative industrial production. Produced on low-iron, PPG Starphire tempered glass, images can be produced with translucent AST I/Etch or opaque AST III/Vitracolor for wall cladding. Customization is available.
