NeoCon 2014: Davis Furniture wins Gold and Silver, including versatile Modo bench

by Brianna Crandall — June 23, 2014—Contemporary business furniture manufacturer Davis Furniture earned both a Gold and Silver Award out of some 350 Best of NeoCon entries for two of the numerous new products the company introduced at the NeoCon contract furnishings show in Chicago two weeks ago. Three of the company’s new products are highlighted below, including the Gold-winning Modo bench collection.

GOLD: Modo bench collection

The Modo bench collection took Gold in the Seating: Benches category of the Best of NeoCon Competition. According to Davis, the collection can initiate an abundance of design opportunities in virtually any space imaginable. Simple and classic in design, the versatile Modo bench serves as a building block to build a space around.

With several different-sized pieces, Modo can fit in a variety of spaces. Available in benches, backless benches, and “L”-shaped pieces ranging from 48″ to 96,” the possibilities are almost endless, whether it is in the office, collaborative meeting spaces, waiting areas, cafes, breakout spaces, or lobbies. Particularly suitable for building small meeting and collaborative environments, the collection can be used to create a stylish and smart working space.

The seat is manufactured with “no-sag” springs to keep Modo looking brand new. The slender legs add an elegant tone to Modo’s appearance. The welded tubular steel of the legs frames the space beneath the seat and is available in chrome and powder coat finishes.

The sleek new Apex table is deceptively strong, constructed of wood and steel, with standard power and data options and a cord channel routed through the leg to facilitate all necessary wires.

Apex conference table

Designed by Wolfgang C.R. Mezger, Apex embodies the height of design, functionality, and style in the conference room, says Davis. Offered in several sizes—available up to 10 feet—and in several shapes—including circle, oval, and rounded triangular options—Apex is suitable for conferencing, small meetings, or even high-end cafes.

This sleek new table is deceptively strong, claims Davis. Constructed through the combination of wood and steel, Apex utilizes smart engineering so that the support and strength of the table do not hinder the beauty of the design. Apex is available with standard power and data options as well. The polished aluminum leg includes a cord channel routed through the leg to facilitate all necessary wires without cluttering the visual space of Apex.

One noteworthy feature of Apex that Davis points out is the table legs. The legs do not run perpendicular to the table top, but rather, they extend at a slight angle. This contributes to the contemporary aesthetic of Apex, with its modern and stylish, straightforward and simplistic design. The delicate angle and shape of the legs also offer another small yet striking design feature. Once the legs reach the table top at their slight angle, they veer back out, creating a boomerang-shaped summit at the juncture.

The legs are available in solid wood with Oak and Walnut veneer options or polished aluminum with Davis’ powder coat options. The table tops are available in standard veneer finishes and a white acrylic.

Side by Side offers a number of opportunities for modular office seating, to help create a room within a room, or a space within a space.

Side by Side modular office seating

Designed by Dick Spierenburg and Karel Boonzaaijer, Side by Side offers a number of opportunities for modular office seating. Characterized by the smooth curvature of the chair design, this modern-age office series offers a sleek, uniform style.

Side by Side helps to create a room within a room, or a space within a space. The high- or mid-backed modular pieces can be used in a plethora of shapes and configurations. With single-, double-, and triple-base options, this modular piece can range from a single seat to expansive group seating. The privacy of the high-backs that wrap around the full perimeter of the seating can be utilized to create a small, private working space. Cushioned chair pieces are interchangeable with tabletops to create sectional working pieces.

When broken down, the pieces of Side by Side are very basic and straightforward. The slightly thicker back pieces create the difference between the arms and backs, but there is a piece available for almost any grouping. Through this combination of left-facing, right-facing, or straight pieces, back-to-back configurations or side-by-side as the name suggests, design combinations can include stand-alone chairs, a small tte-à-tte, and private booth work spaces, or large sectional couches, winding modular configurations, and seating to fill an entire room, says Davis.
