by Brianna Crandall — June 23, 2014—As reported in previous FMLink coverage, smart workspaces provider Inscape captured four Gold and one Silver Best of NeoCon awards out of some 350 Best of NeoCon entries as part of the company’s most-ever launch of eight new products at the NeoCon contract furnishings show in Chicago two weeks ago. Supporting the company’s focus to create spaces that make life at work better, all eight products address the needs of today’s workplace—balancing the need for both collaboration and private spaces. Three more of the products are highlighted below, including two Gold winners, and 2 more will be described in a future FMLink article.
GOLD: Terri tory modular storage system
The Gold winner in the Best of NeoCon Files and Mobile Storage Systems category, Terri tory is a dynamic, European-designed modular storage system that fits well in an open plan arrangement or in private spaces. Stackable, movable Terri tory components define zones and provide storage and privacy. Storage boxes include full- and half-height open shelving elements, fold-up doors, pull out drawers, and drawers with file frames. Quick-assembly elements can be easily removed or changed out as individual or departmental needs change.
Boxes stack four-high for just the right amount of privacy: single level for touchdown seating, double stack for desk-height storage access, three-high stack for seated privacy, and four-high stack for standing height area division. The 15″ footprint makes real estate sense. Functional shelves up to 90″ long can be connected in a row “indefinitely.” Functional boxes with a variety of front options can be positioned for front or side access planning or for 90-degree applications. Pass-through openings can be positioned along the length of the functional shelf as desired.
Spaces can also be personalized with numerous finishes and accessories. Screens or storage elements can be added for any level of visual and acoustic privacy. Open and closed storage boxes provide different levels of security. Cases are available in pure white and graphite black, and options include laminates, veneers, acrylic screens, decorative inserts, painted accessories and cushions.
Terri tory is also marketed as a sustainable choice, with FSC-certified wood and post-consumer and pre-consumer aluminum. The system is manufactured and assembled locally and is designed for easy disassembly at the end of life, and its wood, steel and aluminum components are recyclable at the end of life.
GOLD: Veil visual/acoustic accessories
Inscape’s Veil collection won Best of NeoCon Gold in the Office Accessories category. Veil is a collection of accessories that lets workers in the open plan adjust their level of acoustic and visual privacy to enhance productivity and suit their work style. The Veil collection was designed to work interactively across all Inscape products from benching to storage to walls. Veil helps to soften the level of ambient sound in the office by acting as a baffle, and give open-plan workers the option to control their visual space with portable and interchangeable components.
Freestanding screens Cloak and Wave are 64-inch-high freestanding screens that can be easily moved by users. Cloak is designed to “hug” or cloak the user either while working at their desk or in combination with Veil lounge pieces to create a private oasis. It has a built-in roller so moving it is as simple as tilting it back and rolling. Cloak helps define personal space while providing acoustic and visual privacy. Wave screens connect end-to-end to create a wave shape that provides space division and sound absorbency.
Cove is a mounted privacy screen that helps users to focus on tasks in open environments. Ideal for benching applications, Cove mounts to worksurfaces, and slides for easy user adjustment and placement, and can also be easily moved to a new location.
Mask transforms hard metal surfaces into soft sound-absorbing, tackable surfaces. This fabric panel is magnetized to mount to any storage unit, masking metal surfaces and acting as a design element.
Pivot is a privacy or space division solution for Interval, Inscape’s post-and-beam solution. Mounted from the underside of the Interval beam and secured to the floor, Pivot’s rotating 360-degree fabric partitions not only define the space, but help to absorb sound and limit visual distractions.
Ease provides soft yet structured lounge seating that integrates with other elements of Veil, including Cloak and Wave, to create various arrangements of meeting hubs. It can be easily moved and rearranged, as needed.
Veil is available in a wide variety of color options, as well as COM. It is also marketed as a responsible choice, since the collection is made from sustainable materials: FSC-certified wood, post-recycled content core, and renewable wool or 100% recycled polyester fabrics. Veil is also manufactured and assembled locally, and designed for easy disassembly at the end of life.
