by Brianna Crandall — June 22, 2015—HBF (originally Hickory Business Furniture), a contract furnishings division of The Lane Company, hit the jackpot with three Gold Awards and two Silver Awards in the Best of NeoCon Competition at the NeoCon 2015 contract furnishings show in Chicago last week.
HBF’s Gold and Silver Award-winning furniture and textile collections introduced at NeoCon are:
HBF’s Carlyle Seating Collection won a Gold Award in the “Seating: Guest” category of the Best of NeoCon Competition. Named for the historic Carlyle Hotel in New York City, this series designed by Kevin Stark celebrates the beauty of timeless design, offering a modern sophistication designed to stay quintessential and iconic in years to come, just as the hotel has. Combining rich materiality with classic forms, Carlyle highlights the natural, honest beauty of quarter-sawn Ash with the architectural aesthetic of a distinct curved back and brushed metal accents that highlight its craftsmanship and quality.
Cheval Bench and Table Collection
HBF’s Cheval Bench and Table Collection garnered a Gold Award in both the “Tables: Occasional” category and the “Seating: Benches” category in the BON Competition. Wout Speyers redefines the term “multifunctional” in his Cheval series, says HBF. Cheval’s curved, clean form reduces complexity while increasing its adaptability, allowing it to serve as modern bench or sophisticated table depending on the user or environment.
HBF’s Andaz Seating Collection took home Silver in the “Seating: Stacking” category of the Competition. Created in response to the casual café environment, award-winning designer Todd Bracher’s Andaz series of versatile stools and stackable chairs marries “perfect” proportion with material diversity. Refined elegance paired with simplicity of form, Andaz achieves aesthetic flexibility with a sophisticated palette and range of upholstery, wood and paint styles. Andaz, which is the Urdu word for “unique style,” is expected to serve as a key piece for designers and facilities managers who want a customizable and universal seating collection.
HBF Textiles’ Cork Cloth won Silver in the “Wall Treatments” category. Cork Cloth, from the HBF Textiles Erin Ruby Collection, is an innovative fabric made from cork. Cork is a versatile and pliable material used in everything from floor tiles to tack surfaces and wine bottles. This pattern explores its use in cloth form as an alternative to leather in four colorways: Birch, Brick, Earth, and Slate.
