by Brianna Crandall — July 17, 2015—Sherwin-Williams , provider of technologically advanced paint and coatings for nearly 150 years, introduced new paints and coatings at the NeoCon 2015 contract furnishings show in Chicago in June—two of which are highlighted below—and revealed its annual color forecast.

Dry Erase Coating

Designers and architects now have the ability to create versatile, economical dry erase boards in a wide array of settings, including businesses, homes and schools, with Sherwin-Williams dry erase coatings. Applications range from transforming a wall into a working surface to providing a space for kids to scribble away with any standard dry erase marker.

According to the company, Sketch Pad and Dry Erase Coating are the first-ever dry-erase clear gloss coatings that can be easily applied over any color, allowing the wall color to show through. Both coatings produce a durable, clear gloss finish engineered to wipe clean for years of use.

Dry Erase Coating is formulated exclusively for application by professional paint contractors, and is best suited for commercial projects. Sketch Pad dry erase coating is available as a pre-packaged kit that allows designers and architects to offer their clients a product that is ideal for kitchen message boards, home offices and kids’ bedrooms, as well as conference rooms, small businesses and classrooms.

The Sketch Pad kit has two pre-measured parts, a clear and hardener, that are mixed together to create the dry erase coating. Applicators in the kit include a mini-roller, tray and stir stick, designed to help achieve excellent results. The kit creates one quart of coating, capable of covering up to 50 square feet. Sherwin-Williams Dry Erase Coating is only for sale to professional paint contractors.

Emerald Interior washable flat paint

Sherwin-Williams also introduced what it says is the paint industry’s first-ever truly flat finish that has excellent washability, now available in Emerald Interior paint.

“Professionals no longer need to sacrifice performance for appearance,” said Karl Schmitt, senior vice president of market research, color and design, Sherwin-Williams. “The flat finish hides minor drywall imperfections while providing a washable, rich look.”

Unlike other paints that claim to offer a washable flat finish, the new, technologically advanced finish for Emerald is truly flat and cleanable, says the company. Engineered to offer the same exceptional washability, durability and burnish resistance of the matte and glossier sheens, the paint also features anti-microbial agents that inhibit the growth of mold and mildew on the paint surface.

Emerald Interior Paint offers a truly flat finish that hides minor drywall imperfections while providing a washable, rich look.

Emerald Interior paint is available in all Sherwin-Williams colors and custom tints in four sheens: flat, matte, satin and semi-gloss. Flat, matte and satin finishes are now available in a new high hiding accent base, formulated to boost hiding power and deliver truer colors in fewer coats. Dark and vibrant colors are easily achieved with the same trusted performance and exceptional hide of Emerald Interior Acrylic Latex paint, says the company.

Emerald Interior Acrylic Latex Paint and Primer in One features advanced stain-blocking technology that creates a beautiful, smooth, long-lasting finish, with excellent hide and application characteristics. It also has outstanding resistance to scrubbing, stains, blocking and water spotting.

According to Sherwin-Williams, Emerald Interior Paint meets the most stringent volatile organic compound (VOC) regulations, is backed by a limited lifetime warranty, and has achieved GREENGUARD GOLD Certification. The paint is suitable for a wide range of residential and commercial applications, including hotels, offices and home interiors.
