NeoCon 2016: Davis Furniture chairs and tables win 3 Silver awards, Editors’ Choice

by Brianna Crandall — July 8, 2016 — Established contract furniture manufacturer Davis Furniture introduced several new chairs and tables at NeoCon 2016 in June, bringing home a total of four awards in the Best of NeoCon Competition [see FMLink article]. The award-winning Davis products are highlighted below.

Cloud

Davis’ Cloud office and conference chair garnered a Best of NeoCon Silver award in the Seating: Conference category. Designed by Wolfgang C.R. Mezger, Cloud combines luxurious comfort and an elegant aesthetic to enhance the working environment.

Davis Cloud chair

Cloud offers the comfort of a one-piece bent plywood seat and back shell that cradles the users’ form, with a classic knee-tilt seating mechanism for support.

The seat and back pad are a blend of down, feather and polyester fiber cushions, implementing a new level of comfort for the modern office. Available in mid and high back, this fully upholstered conference chair offers the comfort of a one-piece bent plywood seat and back shell that cradles the users’ form, with a classic knee-tilt seating mechanism for support.

The upholstery detailing makes Cloud even more inviting, with a slight ruching detail offering visual interest. Reinforced copolymer casters have a brake feature that prevents the chair from rolling away without weight in the chair. This safety feature keeps the chairs from slipping out from under users.

Ginkgo Lounge Low Back

With the great success of both the original Ginkgo chair and the Ginkgo Lounge chair, Davis introduced two new additions to the Lounge line this year: Ginkgo Lounge Mid Back and Ginkgo Lounge Low Back. Designed by Jehs+Laub, Ginkgo Lounge Low Back chair won Best of NeoCon Silver in the Seating: Sofas and Lounge category.

Davis Ginkgo Lounge Low Back

Ginkgo Lounge Low Back is the “in-between” chair of the popular Ginkgo family, embodying an ideal small-scale lounge with the complex curves, thin lines and natural aesthetic of the line.

Ginkgo Lounge Low Back is the “in-between” chair of the line, embodying an ideal small-scale lounge with the complex curves, thin lines and natural aesthetic of the Ginkgo family. Engineered to provide optimum comfort and strength, the chair brings a relaxed and residential feel with a sophisticated look for a variety of applications.

The Ginkgo line is trademarked by the distinctive sculptural curvature of the shell — folded in ever so slightly like the leaves of a tree. The Low Back features the signature bent plywood veneer shell, either with interior upholstery or as a fully upholstered shell.

The Low Back comes in a variety of distinct base designs. The Four-Prong Pedestal base mimics the Ginkgo Lounge Mid and High Back style. The Wire base is slender and minimal, highlighting the comfortable angle of the seat. The Wood base reflects the Ginkgo chair, with the same stylistic veneer details.

Zen

Designed by Jehs+Laub, the Zen chair received one of only four Editors’ Choice awards at this year’s NeoCon show, under the Seating: Guest category. Zen’s clear and delicate language of forms makes it universally deployable, adding sophisticated form and functionality to any workplace or high-end café.

Davis Zen chairs

For maximum comfort, Zen features a fully upholstered shell, innovative flexible polygonal blades in the seat and back areas that ensure optimal adaptation to the user’s body, and a cantilever base.

With a fluid, dynamic appearance of seamless construction, the minimalistic chair is made of a die-cast aluminum base and a plastic shell with a fully upholstered cover. The flexible frame is coated with molded foam, making it very sturdy and durable. A delicate twist to the armrests creates visual interest and an ideal angle for relaxed seating. Zen is also available as a stackable chair.

Zen’s fully upholstered shell is engineered to provide a high level of seating comfort for long stretches of time. Zen’s true innovation is hidden beneath the upholstery: flexible polygonal blades in the seat and back areas ensure optimal adaptation of the plastic shell to the user’s body. The cantilever base provides additional support for dynamic seating positions, making it an ideal chair for guests, meetings and cafés.

Techniq

Designed by Jonathan Prestwich, Davis’ new Techniq line of reconfigurable multi-use tables won a Silver award in the Tables: Training and Work category. Prioritizing high design, with beautiful form and practical functionality, Techniq task tables offer a variety of options for flexible working environments, including multi-use training rooms.

Davis Techniq tables

Techniq reconfigurable multi-use tables offer a variety of options for flexible working environments, and feature a distinctive “anywhere” flip-top mechanism.

Techniq’s distinctive “anywhere” flip-top mechanism is designed to easily release if engaged from the center, left, or right of the table. Not only does the tabletop flip up for access to power and data boxes, the wire management trough beneath the tabletop is made from an extruded felt material that is ridged enough to keep wires in place yet flexible enough to bend and allow for wire management access when the tops are in the working position.

Tabletop options include veneer or laminate top surfaces, and include a variety of widths and lengths, with supplemental shapes including semi-circle, trapezoid, and quarter round tables. Utilize these shapes to create straight lines, squares, multi-faceted echelons, round tables, and seminar and racetrack configurations.

Training tables are standard with 22 mm radius corners, which adds durability by eliminating the sharp corner and therefore the potential for chipping. Laminate tops are offered with a flexible 2 mm PVC edge band for the best durability in high-traffic situations. Veneer tables are standard with a 1 mm solid wood edge band to ensure the edges of Techniq can be repaired.

The base is a combination of die-cast and extruded aluminum available either in polished chrome or powder coated. Two leg designs support how users work: the T-Leg offers edge or inset legs, and the C-Leg creates a one-sided working table that allows for narrow widths, suitable for tight working spaces.
