by Rebecca Walker — June 23, 2008—Teknion Corporation introduced its Volume stacking chair, oversized Savera task chair and Savera guest chair at its tenth-floor NeoCon showroom, #1048, in Chicago June 9-11.
Volume is a lightweight stacking chair scaled for high-density applications including cafeterias, classrooms, training rooms, auditoriums and conference rooms. It complies with CAL 133, a stringent fire test for furniture manufactured for use in certain public areas and buildings.
Volume accessories include a tablet arm with a generous writing space, and a retrofitable bookrack with integrated cup holders. A multiple-position ganging device secures and aligns chairs. A dolly provides easy transport and compact storage. An upholstered seat pad for additional comfort is optional. Volume is available in four shell colors—Ebony, Storm White, Latte and Espresso—and with a Polished Chrome frame.
Teknion’s popular Savera task chair line is now available in an oversized model designed to accommodate up to 350 pounds. Savera Oversized is also rated for 24/7 use, making it ideal for call center applications. A 22-inch seat width and 21-inch back width offer additional comfort and support when needed. The high-back design enhances support of the upper body to alleviate shoulder and neck stress. Seat and arm adjustments of the oversize model are similar to the standard Savera task chair.
Complementing the Savera task and oversized chairs is a new Savera Guest model, standard with arms. The sculpted back provides seated comfort and support. For extended periods of seating an upholstered seat pad is available as an option.
Also new at NeoCon was the Synapse side chair, a contemporary wooden side chair with fine joinery details that is ideal for the contract, healthcare, hospitality and library markets. Synapse won a Best of NeoCon Gold award for Guest Seating.
Synapse was designed with the environment in mind. When shipped flat in a carton, the chair requires one-third less space, maximizing shipping and installation efficiencies, and assembling on the job site in less than five minutes. The minimal wood chair frame components are available in Solid Beech or Maple sourced from sustainable forests.
A cast, one-piece aluminum seat frame was engineered for rigidity and allows for ease of assembly, disassembly then reuse or recycling. The upholstery package is replaceable without removing the chair from service. It also disassembles into separate materials for ease of recycling.
Synapse finish options include Natural, Medium and Dark stains to match other Teknion finishes. Synapse is offered with or without arms, and a seat finished in upholstery or leather. Unique for a side chair are the flex zones in the seat shell for superior comfort. Synapse meets BIFMA (The Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers Association) standards and is Greenguard Certified for indoor air quality.
