by AF 0612 h3 — June 17, 2009—Avian Board, a lightweight composite board available for the first time in the United States, can help companies save in a variety of ways without sacrificing quality and while reducing the impact of their products on the environment.

Manufacturers will have their first opportunity to see Avian’s lightweight products at NeoCon World’s Trade Fair (booth 7-2112) at The Merchandise Mart, Chicago, June 15-17.

Avian Board is the first lightweight frameless board to be available to U.S. manufacturers on an industrial scale, according to Avian. The composite board is made from a sandwich of top and bottom decking of particleboard, with a robust cardboard honeycomb core. This construction reduces raw material requirements, meaning there is also a reduction in material, transport and logistical costs for fabricators and manufacturers. Moreover, the environmental impact is reduced without compromising strength and stability. The finished product can be as much as 41 percent lighter than a standard panel with equivalent area dimensions, says the company.

Available in thicknesses of 38 mm to 50 mm, the Avian Board offers a variety of practical and esthetic benefits to manufacturers over traditional wood products. The lightweight, easy-to-work-with boards offer excellent stability and a range of fashionable, hard-wearing finishes to allow for creative freedom. Thick panels at low weight offer design opportunities that were previously impractical due to weight concerns. A truly frameless construction provides total design freedom, which allows Avian Board to seamlessly integrate into any product design.

While the Avian Board is new to the U.S., it will be manufactured by Egger, which has been successfully creating light boards in Europe for several years.
