by AF 0621 g3 — June 23, 2010—Shaw has introduced a rectangular carpet tile called 18X36, which brings new scale and installation options to workplace environments. Featuring five patterns on EcoWorx backing, 18X36 maximizes and accentuates the tile size, shifting the shape of design, says the company.
For 18X36, Shaw Contract Group received a Silver Award in the Modular Carpet category of The Best of NeoCon product competition, held during NeoCon World’s Trade Fair at The Merchandise Mart, Chicago, in June.
18X36 features five tile patterns and five colors: Tile, Fade, Blur, Overlay, Laser Cut, Scale.
“18X36 expands the design aesthetic achievable in a carpet tile, using unexpected installation methods to provide designers with an additional layer of sophistication to build into a space,” says Reesie Duncan, creative director. “The patterns take advantage of the rectangular tile shape through fading and blurring, a technique that blends colors the way a vapor slowly disappears. Layers are used to incorporate geometric patterns, and hidden areas of color provide meaningful accents and gradual tone changes.”
18X36 uses EcoWorx tile backing for performance and recyclability. EcoWorx tile backing contains 40 percent pre-consumer recycled content and can be recycled into more EcoWorx, with Shaw Contract Group collecting the product at no cost to the customer. Eco Solution Q nylon contains 25 percent pre-consumer recycled content and is completely recyclable into new nylon.
18X36 products contribute to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System points for flooring systems, recycled content, adhesives & sealants, among others. Social is also eligible for credit in Innovation in Design due to the collection’s Cradle to Cradle Certificationsm by MBDC and NSF-140 Gold certification.
