by Ann Withanee — June 24, 2011—Never have so few pieces opened up so many possibilities, says Davis Furniture. Kontour modular seating, with coordinating ottomans and end tables, can be arranged in countless configurations to provide comfortable, functional seating options in lounges and lobbies of all sizes. Its rectilinear and curvilinear shapes are designed to create strong visual interest while enhancing a designer’s ability to define spaces and control traffic flow in large public areas. It was designed by Wolfgang C.R. Mezger.

Kontour was acknowledged with a Gold in the Best of NeoCon product award program, held annually during the NeoCon World’s Trade Fair, in The Merchandise Mart, Chicago. Kontour was one of three Gold awards and one Silver accorded Davis Furniture.

A subtle, quilted stitch detail on the seat enhances comfort and helps break up the visual plane of this sleek, substantial piece. Fully upholstered backs are available in sizes that range from two-thirds the length of the seat to the full length of the seat with an optional armrest.

One of the interesting features of Kontour is the optional zigzag back. Its unique shape enables users to approach the seat from both sides and still have use of a backrest.

Kontour reportedly offers as much in the way of intimate, collaborative workspaces as it does for ample seating in large public areas. Upholstered privacy enclosures are available on many of the seating configurations. These screens allow the creation of a room within a room for optimal isolation and acoustics even when seated within vast, open spaces.

Coordinating ottomans and end tables introduce more organic, rounded shapes and add to the functionality of this line. Select ottomans and tables are available with surface power and data access, allowing Kontour to transition seamlessly from a place of rest to a place for work. Across its many different forms, Kontour maintains a low profile thanks to slim, rectangular legs, which are available in chrome or powder-coat.
