by Ann Withanee — June 20, 2011—InterfaceFLOR has gone the luxury route with its latest introductions in modular carpet tile for commercial installation. The company’s newest designs, which redefine the opulent look of high-end broadloom carpet in a more sustainable manner, were displayed during the NeoCon Worlds’ Trade Fair at The Merchandise Mart, Chicago. The collection received a Silver Award in the Best of NeoCon product competition. Featured Luxury Looks products are Striation, Smithfield Stripe & Finsbury Square, and Silurian.

Among the distinctive new entries, Striation has a pattern that proves how color impacts the perception of texture and how texture imparts a sense of depth. The colors are rich and saturated, and they compose into a complex of finely drawn lines suggesting a dimensional appearance. This product is made from 100 percent non-virgin yarn, much of it derived from reclaimed carpet fiber combined with—surprisingly—salvaged fishing nets.

This yarn innovation is the result of collaboration between InterfaceFLOR and one of its global yarn suppliers, and the relationship has allowed the achievement of a minimum of 25 percent post-consumer yarn content. In addition, combining Striation’s non-virgin fiber face with InterfaceFLOR’s GlasBacRE backing system delivers a product with a minimum of 29 percent post-consumer recycled content and a minimum total recycled content of 79 percent.

One step removed from menswear fashion, Smithfield Stripe & Finsbury Square are a compatible duo, each featuring tailored stripes that offer a timeless look for any well-groomed interior. Paths of pinstripes narrowly and densely course across the color field of Smithfield Stripe, while the stripes of Finsbury Square are spatially freed to create a more “eccentric” rhythm all their own. Pairing these two styles effectively produces a handsome sight, says the company. A choice of 24 colorways is available, and the texture has a velvety finish that conveys luxury. Both patterns are constructed of post-consumer content type 6,6 nylon yarn that is 100 percent solution dyed. The total recycled content is 48 percent, with InterfaceFLOR’s own GlasBac backing system incorporated.

Silurian features this same construction but visually has more organic traits. Its name is a nod to geology and the earth’s earliest formation of rock beds, and InterfaceFLOR says that Silurian could easily qualify as “bedrock” for any dcor. The look is a lasting classic, with luxury amplified by a sheared face that also contributes to the textured effects and sense of volume. Silurian is available in 12 colorways and also incorporates 48 percent total recycled content.
