by Ann Withanee — June 24, 2011—Versteel’s new Quanta chair, introduced during the NeoCon World’s Trade Fair at The Merchandise Mart in Chicago, is fitted with rubber suspension to allow for movement as a person changes position and moves independently of the frame. It is considered an industry first.
Quanta’s unique support system allows the chair to move and flow with the individual, thereby increasing comfort over long periods of time. Rubber suspension on both the seat and back produces a more gradual response to movement in comparison to traditional mechanical systems, which are concentrated only in the back. The chair’s lead designer is Roberto Lucci.
Quanta was created using die-cast aluminum as well as stamped sheet metal and rigid steel tubing. The seat and back are made from the highest quality commercial grade plywood for lasting durability. Versteel’s unique custom profiled tubing and leg groove provide added dimension while discreetly increasing strength. Various fabrics along with wood and metal finish options allow it to fit any environment.
The chair was designed to be used in a myriad of settings: training rooms, conference rooms, classrooms, etc. The slim profile and stackability make it useful in an ever-changing training environment, while solid construction makes it durable in round-the-clock university settings. The line was designed to evolve the initial single concept into a multi-faceted product range with many variants to fit the unique needs of various users.
Adhering to strict environmental standards, Quanta is made from recycled content and wood parts from managed forests, and is designed to be disassembled and recycled at end of life. Quanta was designed with DFE (Design for the Environment) goals. In addition, Versteel is actively pursuing BIFMA level certification for all its products.
