by Ann Withanee — June 17, 2011—Teknion Corporation exhibited major executive furniture collections during NeoCon, at The Merchandise Mart in Chicago, including Dossier executive furniture, the MAST family of monitor adjustment arms and accessories, the AL3 Executive Task Chair, Workstation Enhancers, dna+ lounge seating concepts, and Livello height-adjustable work tables and mobile, flip-top meeting room tables.
Dossier executive furniture is characterized by clean, modern design and high-quality materials and construction, explains John Hellwig, Designer of Dossier and Teknion’s Vice President of Design and Innovation. “It was conceived to reflect today’s changing functions and preferences of the private office, while staying relevant to traditional norms. Though Dossier is furniture for one of the most conservative parts of the workplace, it responds to new thinking and a new image for the private office. ”
Dossier has a broad and unique storage offering that can support high-density storage and is easily accessible. A shallow-depth storage option with sliding doors suits today’s smaller offices. Other features include configurable credenzas, built-in wire management with easy access, back-painted magnetic glass for writing and pin-up, and a choice of open table desks for collaborative environments or traditional desks. The finish offering includes a range of natural and reconstituted veneers, paint and glass finish options.
Dossier is GREENGUARD Certified for indoor air quality. It was designed for long use, with a high degree of configurability built in. Nesting software and the use of rift-cut and reconstituted veneers ensures high yield in manufacturing. All veneers and cores are FSC-certified and core materials meet current CARB (California Air Resources Board) requirements. Zero urea-formaldehyde cores are an option. Metal parts use less-toxic satin nickel plating as an alternative to chrome.
Alongside Dossier, Teknion Corporation displayed its new MAST family of monitor adjustment arms and accessories. MAST was designed to meet and anticipate ever-changing workplace technology demands including larger and thinner monitors, and all types and sizes of tablets. “MAST represents a clean break from conventional monitor adjustment arms, while elevating the aesthetics,” said Carl Gustav Magnusson, Industrial Designer, CGM Design. “MAST is the first monitor support arm to market designed specifically to support today’s workplace requirements while anticipating the next level of technology, including tablets, oLED and curved screens.
MAST is built around a strong stanchion that delivers high rigidity and stability. Stanchions accommodate up to four monitors on a single-height post, and up to eight monitors by combining dual-height posts side-by-side. Three different monitor-support types—a Manual Adjustment Arm, Dynamic Arm and Hybrid Adjuster—deliver the high level of user adjustability. MAST accommodates all monitors. Mounting hardware allows monitors to be added or removed quickly and includes a security feature. Knurled knobs invite touch and enable simple self-adjustment by the user—without tools. Mast joints are engineered for strength and fluid ease of movement and a light friction mechanism ensures that arms stop exactly where required by the user. It provides finger-tip adjustment.
“Expect an onslaught of tablets,” predicts Magnusson. “They are exploding in business for work purposes, and the education and healthcare markets are also hot markets for tablets. Irrespective of manufacturer, the MAST Tablet Holder fits all screens without looking like an add-on. New applications allow the tablet to be a wireless second screen. The tablet can be quickly removed quickly for on-the-go use.”
MAST was designed following Teknion’s in-house DfE (Design for the Environment) guidelines, maximizing the use of materials with a high recycled content and ensuring a long life cycle. MAST is manufactured from 36 percent pre-consumer and 12 percent post-consumer recycled aluminum, and 20 percent pre-consumer and 41 percent post-consumer recycled steel. It is 100 percent recyclable, and PVC- and lead-free, and can help in achieving LEED credits for building projects, notes the company.
