New BRE seminars explain U.K.’s Carbon Reduction Commitment program

by jbs051409 a3 — May 18, 2009—The U.K.’s BRE is holding a series of seminars on the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC), a new mandatory emissions trading scheme starting in April 2010 that will affect both public and private sector organizations in the U.K. that are large energy users.

Under the new program, participants will have to monitor and report their energy use to the government and will be obliged to purchase an allowance for each ton of CO2 they emit. The government expects approximately 5,000 organizations to be included in the CRC, including retailers, hotel chains, banks and financial institutions, IT and communications companies, local authorities, and government agencies.

Understanding the Carbon Reduction Commitment” is a series of seminars designed to deliver practical guidance that will enable professionals responsible for energy management to manage their own organization’s CRC compliance. They will deal with the key issues pertinent for all energy and environmental professionals.
