by Brianna Crandall — August 8, 2016 — Cintas Corporation recently launched the Traffic Mat, a new floor mat featuring what Cintas says is the highest traction rating ever recorded by the National Floor Safety Institute (NFSI). This means that the mat’s high-traction backing has far exceeded minimum requirements set in place by the NFSI.
The Traffic Mat is part of Cintas’s new High Performance Series, a line of mats that help businesses get “READY FOR THE WORKDAY,” as the company says, and can help facilities managers make their floors safer for occupants and visitors.
Russell Kendzior, president, NFSI, explained:
For more than 15 years, the NFSI has researched testing for slip resistance in order to develop its current, comprehensive evaluation process. Mats certified as high traction offer greater slip resistance to meet safety regulations.
The ANSI/NFSI B101.6-2012 Standard Guide for Commercial Entrance Matting in Reducing Slips, Trips and Falls recommends that mats have a “high-traction backing” in order to reduce movement, which can lead to issues such as buckling and curling.
The Traffic Mat features a heavier weight rubber backing with tire-grip technology, says Cintas. This backing provides high traction to help the mat withstand foot, wheel and cart traffic. The mat is well suited for high-traffic areas within facilities such as airports, hotels, supermarkets and hospitals.
John Engel, director of Marketing, Cintas, pointed out:
Placing durable mats in heavily trafficked areas is essential for prolonging the life of costly floor assets and maintaining cleanliness and safety. The Traffic Mat is designed to handle frequent abuse from shoes and suitcase and cart wheels, making it a great option for a wide range of facilities.
