New Energy debuts larger version of SolarWindow that generates electricity through transparent glass

by Rebecca Walker — February 4, 2011—New Energy Technologies, Inc. announced it has developed a first-generation 12-inch-by-12-inch working prototype of the Company’s SolarWindow technology, capable of generating electricity on transparent glass.

Following the debut of its 4-inch-by-4-inch predecessor in September 2010, the announcement marks a step forward for the company as it continues to work towards producing a commercially marketable product.

The new prototype achievement marks a 300 percent increase in size over its predecessor, and is the first-ever working SolarWindow of its dimension, according to the company.

Researchers fabricated this prototype using New Energy’s patent-pending process for spraying’ the company’s electricity-generating coatings directly onto glass, eliminating expensive and often cumbersome high-temperature or high-vacuum production methods typically used by current solar manufacturers.

New Energy Technologies, Inc., together with its wholly owned subsidiaries, is a developer of next generation alternative and renewable energy technologies. For more information, see the Web site.
