New Green Globes building certification course receives AIA approval for credit

by Shane Henson — July 26, 2013—The Green Building Initiative (GBI), a provider of sustainability assessment and certification services and administrator of the Green Globes sustainability rating tool in the USA, announced that its new Green Globes training course has been approved by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) for continuing education credit.

According to GBI, the course, Green Globes New Construction, is intended for design and construction professionals interested in green building rating systems and is offered as a Webinar. It provides an overview of the features and use of the newly released version of Green Globes for New Construction (NC), which is based on an ANSI Standard (ANSI/GBI 01-2010: Green Building Assessment Protocol for Commercial Buildings).

The updated program contains major enhancements throughout, with a particular focus on the energy and materials and resources sections. It also incorporates criteria to evaluate the Guiding Principles for Federal Leadership in High Performance and Sustainable Buildings.

AIA members need 18 learning units per year, 12 of which must be in health/safety/welfare (HSW) topics. AIA members can watch this free 60-minute recorded Webinar online and receive one HSW learning unit from AIA. The AIA course code is GBIGGNCJul13. In order to receive credit, users must pass a 10-question online exam after watching the Webinar, and complete an online course evaluation. Links to the exam and course evaluation are provided at the end of the Webinar. Participants must then send GBI an e-mail request containing their AIA member number in order to receive credit.
