by Brianna Crandall — November 6, 2013—Gum-removal expert Gumwand has recently supplied its “revolutionary” new portable machines to two of the United Kingdom’s most prestigious shopping centers and the Olympic site in Stratford in a move to eliminate the perennial problem of chewing gum litter, and significantly improve the visitor experience. The state-of-the-art machines are said to be environmentally friendly and effective at gum removal, as well as inexpensive to use.

Chris Thomas, Key Account Director at FM services provider Cleanevent Group, explains, “The shopping center in Stratford, for example, had a major issue with chewing gum litter. People get rid of their gum as soon as they step off the tube, and instead of looking for a bin, they throw it on the ground. It was leaving an unsightly and unhygienic trail, yet to remove it had been expensive and disruptive. The new Gumwand has solved all that. It’s going to be a world-beater.”

Gumwand , invented by gum-removal veteran Martin Whitbread of the British company of the same name, is an easy-to-use, portable solution that requires no generator or trailing cables. The standalone machine is hand-held and uses steam from a built-in vaporizer and “green” detergents to break up the gum then brush the resulting powder away, cleaning the area in seconds without damaging the underlying surface. At a cost of £5 per hour to run the machine, removal cost is estimated at less than one pence per piece of gum.

Chris Thomas continues, “We’ve tried most solutions in the past from floor scrapers, which don’t remove residue, through machines which need special transport and can’t be used while the public is around due to their size, and devices which freeze the gum but they are pretty ineffective. The gum problem hasn’t been solvable until now, and we are excited about spreading the word.”

The lightweight machine is a standalone product that does not require special transportation, allowing gum removal during busy times, with better results. Thomas concludes, “The Gumwand team has been very professional and true to their word — the product did exactly what it said it would.”

Gary Fage, Director at Janitorial Express, has been testing the product and adds his support. “Tackling the sticky problem on the streets is about to be made a whole lot easier and less expensive with this new machine; I predict that Gumwand will take the market by storm. We are certainly stocking it and will be pushing it hard.”

The Gumwand site offers an explanation and videos of how the machine works. The Gumwand reportedly conforms to all required EU directives for machines.
