by Shane Henson — May 11, 2012—Leviton, a provider of lighting and energy management solutions whose products include self-powered wireless occupancy sensors, lighting control relay systems, intelligent dimming systems, and controls and daylight harvesting systems, has launched Zipline, an industry-first linear fluorescent lighting fixture retrofit solution that reduces installation time and eliminates wiring errors.

Delivering on its promise to help people work smarter and with ease, the new Zipline system is a labor-saving solution that combines nine separate components into two easy-to-install modules. Engineered for commercial and institutional retrofits, Zipline requires fewer pieces, fewer connections, and up to half the installation time. This unique system easily mounts into the existing lighting fixture, bypassing the need to install and wire ballast and socket components separately. Ballast and lampholders are integrated into one unit that installs quickly and easily using only two screws per side, streamlining the retrofit process, says the company.

Zipline is available with optional, easy-to-assemble, snap-in reflectors that improve lighting efficiency. The system fits most two-by-two and two-by-four troffers, and is available in two- and three-lamp configurations as well as in high, normal and low ballast factors.

Just as important, Leviton’s newest offering also helps buildings reduce energy. With the worldwide push for energy savings, companies are realizing the wisdom in retrofitting old, outdated lighting fixtures to more energy-efficient equipment. Commercial/Industrial lighting accounts for up to 50% of the United States’ $75 billion in lighting bills, Leviton says. However, through its Zipline retrofit solution, the company hopes to help building owners and facilities managers utilize existing fixtures and transform them from being high cost and high maintenance to energy efficient.
