Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America, and the International Association of Lighting Designers, the competition recognizes excellence in the design of energy-efficient commercial lighting luminaires that use light emitting diodes, or LEDs.

Launched at LIGHTFAIR in May 2008, the new competition attracted 68 entries from 29 lighting companies. A panel of 14 judges from the architectural lighting design community evaluated the entries based on performance, appearance, construction, and submitted photometric data.

Of the 68 entries, 22 were selected for recognition in the market-ready category, and three of these products were designated Best in Class:

  • GE Lighting: Immersion jewelry case lighting;
  • Journe Lighting: AZARA track mounted luminaries; and
  • Winona Lighting: STEP03 indoor/outdoor step lighting.

In addition, five products were recognized in the emerging products category. More information on all the winning entries is available at the Next Generation Luminaires Winners Web page.
