NYC bank reaps incentive money from choosing AdaptivCool’s data center energy solution

by AF 1014b5 — October 19, 2009—AdaptivCool, the data center thermal management division of Degree Controls, Inc. (DegreeC), has installed its data center cooling technology at a large Manhattan bank. As a result, the bank received a $16,000 incentive from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).

AdaptivCool’s technology is projected to reduce the bank’s energy consumption by just over 200,000 kilowatt hours in the first year, while providing a quick return on investment (ROI).

NYSERDA notes that data centers account for 1.5 percent of the nation’s total electric usage. It adds, “Continued collaboration between NYSERDA, our partners, and customers like AdaptivCool, will lead to realization of [New York] Governor David A. Paterson’s comprehensive energy strategy and a cleaner, healthier environment.”

For the project, AdaptivCool employed its Room Scale Intelligent Cooling (RSIC) technology, which uses strategically placed temperature sensors to send information to a Cooling Resource Manager that calculates minute-by-minute cooling demand throughout the data center and controls airflow dynamically via floor- and ceiling-mounted air movers.
