by Rebecca Walker — October 13, 2010—A standardized method for measuring energy efficiency and savings came a step closer recently at a meeting between the BIFM, the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, the Energy Services and Technology Association, and the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment.
The meeting was organized by Powerperfector.
All five organizations agreed that a standardized method of evaluating energy efficiency within organizations was desirable to ensure that both client-side organisations, and product suppliers, did not claim energy efficiency savings which were either exaggerated or plainly fraudulent. It would also allow wider industry benchmarking, they agreed.
The International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP), which has been adopted in the US to define best practice for quantifying the results of energy efficiency investments, was seen by the group as a possible measurement to adopt within the UK.
Although no final agreement was reached, the group is set to meet again, with the participation of the Building Research Establishment, to agree on an industry-wise measure in this area.
