OSCRE announces space management standard for office space

by Brianna Crandall — March 14, 2014— OSCRE International (Open Standards Consortium for Real Estate), a not-for-profit consortium that develops global industry standards for open information exchange, recently announced the final version of its Space Management Standard for office space, available through the OSCRE Web site.

The new standard focuses on the utilization of space, and facilitates the exchange of data relating to property and space attributes, space allocations, chargebacks, alternative office special considerations, space reporting and performance metrics.

Built on OSCRE’s Space Classification Code List, the standard leverages existing work from other industry organizations relating to Space Classification and Measurement Standards, including OmniClass Tables 11 and 13, and the IFMA and BOMA Common Floor Area Measurement Definitions.

OSCRE expressed appreciation to the members and leaders of the workgroup that developed the Space Management Standard, noting that the approach used in the development of this standard marks a new and faster approach to market without compromise on the quality of the results—about seven months from start to finish.

OSCRE is also soliciting participants to form workgroups to develop Space Management Standards for retail space and healthcare facilities, as well to review the Portfolio Information Exchange (PIE) and Lease Delivery Standards.
