Here’s how converting your fleet to propane autogas can reduce maintenance and lower costs

by Brianna Crandall — September 30, 2020 — The Propane Education & Research Council (PERC) released several resources in recent weeks including a guide highlighting the benefits of buying or converting your company’s fleet to propane autogas — including reduced maintenance and lower costs — and guidance on owning, maintaining, and operating propane autogas vehicles in relation to this year’s COVID-19 challenges.

Transforming fleet maintenance guide

To highlight the ease of propane autogas vehicle maintenance, PERC just released a new online resource for fleet owners interested in lowering their maintenance costs and downtime.

Steve Whaley, director of Autogas Business Development at PERC, stated:

Propane autogas provides fleets with the lowest total cost-of-ownership, and a big reason for that is because of its low maintenance and infrastructure costs, including those for garage and maintenance facilities. Our newest resource showcases how fleets can transform their maintenance for the better with propane autogas.

The free guide outlines the main benefits of propane autogas vehicle maintenance, including its cost benefits, reduced downtime and simplified winter maintenance. It also highlights the ease of servicing propane autogas vehicles compared to diesel, gasoline and electric.

Fleet owners can also learn about the virtually seamless transition for maintenance crews. According to PERC, there is no additional certification training required for working on propane autogas vehicles, and, as long as existing buildings are code compliant for gasoline and diesel, most fleets won’t need to modify their garaging or maintenance facilities. Fleets should check with their local Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) for questions about their facility.

The Transforming Fleet Maintenance for the Better: Propane Can Do That guide is now available on PERC’s Maintenance Learning Resources page.

Online resource database for fleets, service technicians after shutdowns

This summer, PERC created online learning resources with educational information about propane autogas for fleets and service technicians that are starting to return to work after the coronavirus shutdowns while navigating through new challenges.

Steve Whaley, director of Autogas Business Development at PERC, remarked:

The pandemic has been a wake-up call, and it has many fleets reevaluating their best practices and operational efficiencies, including their fuel choices. For fleets that aren’t familiar with propane autogas, these resources are a great place to start to learn how the energy source can help reduce their costs and emissions. For fleets that already operate with propane autogas, these resources will help them smoothly get back to business.

The pages feature several items with information about owning, maintaining, and operating propane autogas vehicles and the benefits of the fuel — including that propane autogas provides fleets with the most cost-effective solution to reducing harmful emissions, according to PERC.

The Explore Propane Autogas for Fleets page includes information on refueling, emissions studies, customer testimonials, and educational videos. Fleet owners can even use PERC’s cost savings calculator to determine how much propane autogas could save them over time.

The Maintenance Learning Resources page includes important information about garaging and maintenance facilities, how propane autogas maintenance compares to other fuels, and converting an existing gasoline vehicle to propane autogas.

More information on propane autogas vehicles is also available on the PERC website.
