Pickard Chilton designs ExxonMobil’s new office complex in Houston

by Brianna Crandall — June 13, 2011—Pickard Chilton recently announced it planned and designed ExxonMobil’s new office campus that is under development in north Houston, Texas. Pickard Chilton’s design for ExxonMobil’s new office complex comprises multiple low-rise office buildings, a laboratory, conference and training centers, and facilities such as a child care center, a wellness center, and other employee amenities. Pickard Chilton’s collaborators included PDR as Program Manager and Interior Architect, Gensler as Record and Interior Architect, and Hargreaves Associates as Landscape Architect.

Currently under construction, the complex has been designed to high standards of energy efficiency and environmental stewardship, and will promote new opportunities for employee collaboration in their daily work. “From the start of this development, it has been clear that the project is about ExxonMobil putting its employees first,” said firm Principal William Chilton FAIA, RIBA. “It is always rewarding to work with clients that appreciate and value the impact that quality architecture can have on their business and their employees’ well-being.”

Principal Anthony Markese AIA, LEED AP agreed. “Throughout the design process, we maintained the mindset of inspiring greatness—creating an open and welcoming environment for the employees to enjoy within this beautiful site.” The company also noted that construction and ongoing operations will create thousands of jobs, substantial state and local taxes, and significant benefits to the Texas and Houston-area economy.

New Haven, Connecticut-based Pickard Chilton is an international architectural practice with expertise in the design of large, complex buildings including corporate headquarters, high rise commercial office towers, hotels, and academic and healthcare facilities. The firm’s completed projects include: 1180 Peachtree in Atlanta, GA; ConocoPhillips West Campus in Houston, and 300 North LaSalle in Chicago. Current projects include Eaton World Headquarters in Cleveland, Devon World Headquarters in Oklahoma City, and commercial developments in Washington, DC; Calgary, Canada; and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
