August 22, 2007—Planon introduces the DocuPen RC800 handheld scanner, which allows users to achieve full-color, 24-bit scanning in a compact and lightweight form.

The RC800 can store hundreds of pages into memory, and it takes just seconds to scan a page, explains Planon. Users can select the mode to scan: black-and-white, standard color or high 24-bit color, and the resolution from 100 to 400 dpi. It scans a full-page width, including text and graphics, in as little as 4 seconds, says the company.

The portable DocuPen, explains Planon, can be used for scanning blueprints, maps, certificates, invoices, contracts, newspapers, magazines, books, notes, photos, receipts, court documents, sketches, certificates, medical records, and reference materials.

The DocuPen R700 and RC800 include PaperPort from Nuance, which has the capability to find, organize, and share documents. PaperPort also offers seamless integration with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Notepad, WordPad, and variety of graphics programs. With automatic OCR (Optical Character Recognition) capability, the software will convert scanned documents into editable text.

The R700 Professional and the RC800 Professional include the ABBYY FineReader, OCR, and PDF conversion software. The awarding winning software, says Planon, offers the highest level of recognition accuracy and format retention.
