September 1, 2006—PolyVision Corporation, a Steelcase Company and the world leader in visual communication products, announced that all its marker and tack boards manufactured in the US have won GREENGUARD Children and Schools Certification.
This certification by the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (GEI) provides third-party verification that PolyVision products support a healthy indoor air environment specifically for children in K-12 and daycare facilities, says the company.
Children are more susceptible to exposure of environmental toxins because they consume more food and water and have higher inhalation rates per pound of body weight than adults. Recent research by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) indicates that inhalation is a significant route of exposure to chemicals that are associated with endocrine disorders, reproductive and developmental toxicity, asthma, and allergies.
Due to these factors, the GEI has established strict controls to define low-emitting materials specifically for educational and learning/play environments for young children.
“PolyVision is extremely pleased to be the first and only manufacturer in the industry to become GREENGUARD Children and Schools Certified,” said Mike Dunn, President and CEO of PolyVision.
PolyVision’s GREENGUARD Certified Products for Children and Schools include the entire line of Education Series and Commercial Series marker and tack boards.
