Propex Operating Company wins praise for newly launched Opus Roof Blanket

by Rebecca Walker — March 31, 2010—Opus Roof Blanket, a new category of roofing underlayment recently launched by Propex Operating Company, has received praise from Keith McLean, a specialty roofing contractor and owner of Hancock Building Associates based in Paoli, Pennsylvania.

According to McLean, Opus was clearly designed with roofing contractors in mind. “My crew loved working with Opus. The guys thought it provided excellent walking traction versus felt paper and plastic sheeting underlayment. And, it handles a lot better than other products we’ve used. It is lightweight and easy to install, which will be a real advantage, particularly for roofers working by themselves,” said McLean.

In addition to the peace of mind McLean and his crew get from Opus’s one-of-a-kind slip-resistant surface technology, he also mentioned its easy handling and unique “blanket” surface. This woven construction is responsible for the excellent traction, UV resistance and rugged durability.

“There are a lot of roofing underlayment products out there that are nearly impossible to snap a chalk line on or jot down notes or shingle measurements. We found that chalk really sticks to Opus and shows up well on the tan surface. This makes finishing a job a whole lot easier.” He added that the tan color also keeps the surface cooler on hot days.

Opus Roof Blanket is a new category of roofing underlayment that can be used in place of felt paper and plastic sheeting underlayment under all types of steep-slope roofing materials. “We designed Opus Roof Blanket utilizing technology never before seen in roofing underlayment,” said Propex Executive Vice President Ralph Bruno. “When roofers use this product for the first time, like Keith, they’ll quickly realize it was designed with their needs in mind and is a far superior product than both felt paper and plastic sheeting underlayment.”
