If you need to boost outdoor and perimeter security, see PureTech Systems’ latest map-based video analytics software and new 180-degree camera

by Brianna Crandall — August 24, 2018 — Of interest to facilities managers (FMs) looking to improve their outdoor security system, PureTech Systems, a manufacturer of wide-area perimeter surveillance software solutions, recently announced the latest version of its PureActiv geospatial video management and video analytics software, as well as the company’s first entry into the security imager market, a 180-degree outdoor security camera.

PureActiv geospatial video management and video analytics software version 14.2

Version 14.2 of the PureActiv geospatial video management and video analytics software includes a series of features focused on user map interaction, system deployment and reliability. The release of the new capabilities come just 10 months after the release of version 14.0, aided by PureTech Systems’ rapid software development process based on agile methods.

According to the company, PureActiv is an automated outdoor surveillance system that addresses critical security threats to safeguard lives, facilities, and other high-value assets. Somewhat similar to more traditional Digital Video Recorders (DVRs), the PureActiv system is designed to provide accurate and reliable real-time alarms and video of suspicious activity in outdoor and remote environments while minimizing nuisance alarms. By incorporating PureTech’s innovative geographic map presentation, advanced object detection and tracking, fence intrusion detection, automated camera steering, scalable video distribution, and automated security policy response, the PureActiv system provides situational awareness and proactive management of outdoor security threats.

Key features of the PureActiv 14.2 release include:

  • Support of KML map import — A key feature of the PureActiv command and control is the map-based user interface. In response to customer requests, the latest release allows the end user to import custom KML files. KML files (Keyhole Markup Language files) use XML to express geographic annotations and visualization by storing locations, and modeling information such as lines, shapes, and points. Importing these custom features provide the end user with a higher level of situational awareness and create the ability to better reflect specific areas of interest or features of their sites.
  • Creation of map-based ignore zones direct from client — Although map-based detection zones have been a feature of PureActiv for a while, the ability to quickly add zones was not achievable through the workstation client. PureActiv 14.2 provides for this quick means to temporarily disable alarms for a specified area to accommodate expected activity such as dock loading/unloading, construction work, and/or maintenance activities.
  • Virtualized server architecture — Customers can now opt for a virtualized PureActiv installation, utilizing a virtual server architecture and gaining the added benefits of less hardware and greater disaster recovery, along with faster provisioning and deployment.
  • Enhanced server fail-over — Many security installations carry with them very stringent up time requirements. The enhanced server failover feature has been added to the release to address these high criticality deployments.
  • Continued integrations — In addition to the enhancements mentioned above, PureActiv 14.2 also includes a long list of other feature improvements, bugs fixes and third-party sensor integrations.

PureTech Systems’ first camera offering includes six imagers; three daylight HD cameras and three thermal cameras, centrally housed for day/night 180-degree surveillance.

Key features of the VisionView 180 camera include:

  • Multiple thermal sensors — Provide the ability to deliver wide-area monitoring in unfavorable lighting or weather conditions and at night
  • High-definition optical cameras — 1080p resolution to realize accurate visual identification of intruders
  • Horizon alignment — Ability to adjust side cameras to ensure a continuous horizon when installed at various heights
  • Single ruggedized housing — IP67, temperature-rated housing for harsh environment installation
  • Power over Ethernet — POE connections allow ease of install

Larry Bowe, PureTech Systems president/CEO, explained:

The VisionView 180 represents a significant step in PureTech Systems’ journey as an intelligent video technology leader in the surveillance and safety markets. For well over a decade we have worked with the best cameras in the industry, specifying them in critical infrastructure protection designs. By applying our patented video analytics algorithms to these camera images, we transform the combination into powerful detection and tracking sensors. The VisionView 180 camera leverages years of imaging technology experience to enable us to offer a unique camera that provides continuous day and night detection coverage over a 180-degree field of view.

The first production versions of the VisionView 180 models began shipping in early July, with initial deployments for surveillance along the southern US border. For more information on the VisionView 180, visit the PureTech Systems website.
