by jbs012110 f3 — January 22, 2010—The Real Estate Institute of Canada (REIC) recently signed an agreement with the Building Owners and Managers Association of Canada (BOMA Canada) to formally endorse the association’s BOMA BESt program and to promote the program to REIC members.

BOMA BESt (Building Environmental Standards) is a national assessment program for commercial buildings launched in 2005 by BOMA Canada. It provides realistic standards for energy and environmental performance of existing buildings based on accurate, independently verified information, says the organization.

The four-level performance certification program also identifies key best practices and provides members educational and online assessment tools, independent data audits and more, explains BOMA Canada. There are 1,200 buildings now BOMA BESt certified, with some already entering a recertification cycle.

BOMA Canada represents the Canadian commercial real estate industry. Its over 2,500 members include the building owners, managers, developers, FMs, asset managers, leasing agents, brokers, and product and service providers to over 1.9 billion sq. ft. of commercial real estate in Canada.

REIC is a provider of advanced real estate education that has been educating and certifying specialists in real estate since 1955. Its 1,900 members come from various disciplines in real estate including finance, brokerage, sales, leasing and property management.
