Recovery Act: Obama awards $2.3 billion for clean-tech manufacturing jobs

by jbs011509 C3 — January 18, 2010—President Obama announced January 8 the award of $2.3 billion in Recovery Act Advanced Energy Manufacturing Tax Credits for clean energy manufacturing projects across the United States. One hundred eighty-three projects in 43 states are expected to create tens of thousands of high-quality clean energy jobs and the domestic manufacturing of advanced clean energy technologies including solar, wind, and efficiency and energy management technologies.

As part of the Recovery Act, these tax credits are reportedly focused on putting Americans back to work by building a robust domestic manufacturing capacity to supply clean and renewable energy projects with American-made parts and equipment. The credits will also work towards meeting the President’s goal of doubling the amount of renewable energy the country uses in the next three years with wind turbines and solar panels built in the United States.

This effort will help drive significant growth in the renewable energy and clean technology manufacturing sectors, says the White House. The investment tax credits, worth up to 30 percent of each planned project, will leverage private capital for a total investment of nearly $7.7 billion in high-tech manufacturing in the United States.

While projects selected for this tax credit generally must be placed in service by 2014, approximately 30 percent of them will be completed in 2010. One hundred eighty three projects were selected for the tax credit.
