by Shane Henson — July 1, 2011—Green Seal, an organization that identifies products and services that protect the environment and human health, awarded Knollwood Retirement Community’s Environmental Services Department its Standard for Cleaning Services, GS-42. Knollwood, a military retirement community in Washington, DC, is the first retirement facility to have its cleaning service achieve this certification.
Designed as a leadership standard, GS-42 is a rigorous environmental cleaning service standard, targeted to only the top 20 percent of the market. The standard takes a systems approach to cleaning, from the products used to staff training and planning. The standard also includes an emphasis on environmental improvements that reduce toxicity, waste, and exposure to both building occupants and custodial staff.
In meeting this standard, Knollwood has demonstrated its leadership as a residence for retired leaders of all uniformed services, Green Seal’s leadership said.
