by Shane Henson — November 25, 2013—Through the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors’ (RICS) recently released global Strategic Facilities Management, 1st Edition, guidance note, facilities managers and corporate real estate professionals can receive sound advice and strategies to develop, implement and evaluate a strategic plan for the running and servicing of individual commercial buildings and property portfolios.

As well as directly targeting facilities management professionals, the guide is also accessible for clients and consultants, providing them with a clear picture of the best practice methods that should be implemented in the running of buildings in order to boost organizational performance.

According to RICS, as property is one of business’s biggest expenditures, an effective management plan is crucial to driving down costs and ensuring facilities are run within the context of a firm’s development aims and objectives. It is about much more than the day-to-day servicing and maintenance of a property, and there is real potential to add value through greater productivity from a more comfortable workforce, enhanced customer experience and reduced costs through efficient management, all of which contribute to improving an organization’s performance.

The guide discusses these and other key points, and businesses eager to drive organizational performance and boost profits should heed the guide’s clear and accessible advice, RICS advises.

The development of the note was led by RICS’ Strategic Guidance Working Group with input from U.K. and global bodies. Business leaders and facilities professionals worldwide were also called upon to help shape the guidance through U.K. and global consultations, RICS says.
