by Shane Henson — June 8, 2012—ROAMWORKS, a company that develops and deploys machine-to-machine (M2M) solutions internationally via its remote operational asset management (ROAM) platform, recently announced that it has integrated map data from the OpenStreetMap (OSM) project into ROAM’s latest release. OSM is a free, open-source map of the world being created by volunteers all over the globe.
According to the company, the new version brings a new map viewer, which supports a number of map formats, including the map image data from the community map project. The new viewer presents a revised user interface and makes use of asynchronous data loading, thus creating an improved user experience.
Apart from the map viewer, ROAMWORKS will also be running two new map servers: An OpenStreetMap server will increase the availability of map data, and a new map server, with its own data, will provide customized data, says the company. With the new map servers, ROAMWORKS will be able to offer user-specific data from different sources and have it stylized to meet customers’ demands.
Both map servers will be filled with data in the next few releases.
ROAMWORKS solutions currently cover such markets as vehicle tracking, maritime, cold storage and tank level, but the company says that they work in partnership with clients to develop new markets by implementing custom solutions.
