Sainsbury’s chooses Smartcool Energy Saving Module for refrigeration and HVAC

by Rebecca Walker — April 27, 2009—Smartcool Systems Inc., whose Energy Saving Module (ESM)(TM) makes refrigeration and air conditioning systems more energy and cost-efficient, announced that it has completed a 25-store ESM installation program for Sainsbury’s Supermarkets Ltd. in the United Kingdom.

Sainsbury’s, the UK’s third largest supermarket chain, is an industry leader for environmental initiatives. The supermarket chain’s energy management team extensively tested the ESM to ensure it meets Sainsbury’s energy and cost reduction requirements and complements Sainsbury’s innovative Re-Fit Program, which is focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Before making its purchase decision, Sainsbury’s completed a comprehensive, real-world testing and analysis of the Smartcool ESM. Testing was completed at an initial “assessment” store and then at seven additional pilot sites across the UK. Testing, which was carried out at stores ranging in size from convenience outlets to full-sized supermarkets, revealed extensive energy, environmental and cost savings.

Smartcool ESM is providing energy savings of between 3.5 and 4.5 percent, says the company.
