by Shane Henson — October 24, 2011—Samsung Techwin America, developer of optics and digital imaging products and part of global technology giant Samsung, recently launched a full HD (1080p) analog video surveillance product series.

The new lineup is comprised of an HD-SDI 1920 x 1080p box camera, an HD-SDI 1920 x 1080p dome camera, and a four-channel HD-SDI DVR. According to the company, the HD-SDI products provide over five times the image quality of conventional analog technology and offer a more cost-effective and easier alternative to network-based systems, using standard coax cable.

HD-SDI (High Definition Serial Digital Interface) is a broadcast industry standard that is used to transmit high-definition images digitally over an analog infrastructure. The HD-SDI technology enables transmission of uncompressed and non-packetized digital video signals with zero loss of image data and zero latency when viewing.

“Our new HD Series video surveillance solutions are another example of Samsung’s ability to provide high-performance products with extreme value on any platform,” said Frank De Fina, senior vice president of sales and marketing, North America, Samsung Techwin America. “Samsung’s new HD Series allows users with legacy analog infrastructure to build on their investment while dramatically improving system performance.”

Samsung’s SCD-6080 Dome Camera offers true day/night (ICR) functionality.

The SCB-6000 Box Camera and the SCD-6080 Dome Camera each feature full 1080p resolution and are easily integrated into existing standard definition video surveillance systems. True day/night (ICR) functionality and SSNRIII (3D + 2D) technology add to the cameras’ application flexibility and performance features. The full HD 1920 x 1080p cameras offer RS-485 and 24V AC or 12V DC capability. The SCD-6080 Dome Camera features a 3-8.5mm (2.8x) lens while the SCB-6000 Box Camera can accept a manual or DC Auto Iris lens with C or CS mount.

The Samsung four-channel SRD-480D DVR delivers real time recording at 720p HD resolution for each channel with 1080p full HD resolution recording support. In addition to H.264 compression technology, the SRD-480D features a de-interlace function to help delineate the edges of moving objects. Audio can be recorded on all four channels, and the SATA HDDs (up to 2TB per) allow DVD-RWs and USB devices to be used for archiving.
