Schlage’s SecureKey door locks rekey in seconds

by AF0106 d3 — January 8, 2010—Job sites will be more secure and builders will be able to quickly change keys at any time during construction with the new line of SecureKey bump- and pick-resistant door locks Schlage is introducing at the International Builders’ Show (IBS) in Las Vegas, January 19-22.

Unlike traditional pin-and-tumbler locks, which must be removed from the door and disassembled for rekeying, SecureKey locks and deadbolts employ a new high-security design that enables them to be rekeyed in seconds, without removal from the door and without compromising security. The SecureKey design provides well over 100,000 possible key combinations, making it 10 times more secure from key duplication than other rekeyable systems on the market, according to Schlage.

Rekeying Schlage SecureKey deadbolts and locks is an easy two-step procedure. Simply insert the blue Reset Key included with every SecureKey lock, turn it to the 11:00 position and remove the key. Then insert a new blue Reset Key that matches the new keys for the lock, turn it back to the 12:00 position and you’re done.

According to Schlage, with other rekeyable locks you have to insert a separate tool into a small hole located on the cylinder and make sure it’s pushed all the way in, which adds a third step and opens the possibility of a rekeying error.
