Second ABM project for Wright State University expected to reduce energy use by 40%

by Shane Henson — March 15, 2013—International facilities solutions provider ABM announced that its ABM Building Solutions service line has been selected by Wright State University to complete a campus-wide energy conservation project through its Bundled Energy Solutions (BES) program with the aim of lowering the university’s energy consumption by nearly 40 percent.

ABM’s says its BES program is designed as a financial solution to meet clients’ technical facility needs. ABM’s goal is to drive costs out of a client’s operating budget to allow savings to be reallocated to fund other facilities enhancements.

The project, which began earlier this month, includes major enhancements to Wright State’s heating and cooling equipment, replacing light fixtures with cost-effective light-emitting diode (LED) lighting, and utilizing the university’s pond for geothermal cooling. Over the next 15 years, these enhancements are expected to save Wright State $35.8 million, says ABM.

ABM first partnered with Wright State University in 2009 to complete its first energy conservation project, which reduced energy use by over 20 percent and provided the university with more than $1.3 million in annual energy savings, notes the company. The project was completed in March 2011. As a result of these savings, Wright State was awarded $118,000 in Demand-Side Management (DSM) rebates by Dayton Power and Light, and was eager to begin exploring additional campus-wide energy improvements.
