Seesmart tapped to install one of nation’s largest LED lighting retrofits

by Shane Henson — August 1, 2012—LED lighting manufacturer Seesmart Technologies Inc. announced recently that it has been selected by SL Green Realty Corp., reportedly New York City’s largest commercial property owner, to install light-emitting diode (LED) lighting products throughout 21 commercial office properties, as part of one of the “nation’s largest” LED lighting efficiency projects.

Per the contract, Seemart will install more than 16,000 Seesmart LED lamps, replacing antiquated lighting technologies, including incandescent, halogen and fluorescent lights, to provide exceptional efficiency that reduces energy use by more than 50 percent. This is combined with superior lamp life of more than eight years, which yields additional savings opportunities, says Seemart. SL Green anticipates this energy efficiency project will save $750,000 through combined energy and material/labor savings, resulting in a project payback of only three years.

As part of the evaluation process, SL Green reviewed Seesmart with other top industry competitors through the assistance of Environmental Systems Corp., a designer/contractor of energy efficiency installations. The company was chosen in part because of its demonstrated commitment and ability to engineer and manufacture high-quality, energy-efficient, state-of-the-art LED lighting products that produce immediate energy savings and accommodate existing infrastructure.

SL Green anticipates the completion of the LED lighting retrofit in August 2012. This program is expected to be a catalyst for future retrofit opportunities, including mechanical, renewable energy, and additional LED lighting retrofits at other properties within its portfolio.
