by Shane Henson — June 3, 2013—Potential clients walking into Installation Specialists Inc (ISI), a commercial furniture services firm in Itasca, Illinois, will likely be just as amazed at the company’s new transition ceiling cloud design as they are by its wide range of offerings.

Seeyond Architectural Solutions recently installed the first in a series of new ceiling clouds—a wall-to-ceiling cloud transition—for ISI to create a warm and welcoming arrival for those entering their corporate offices.

ISI says it worked with architecture and design firm The Nelson Companies to realize their vision.

“It’s a gorgeous feature,” said Adina Balasu, a project manager for the American Institute of Architects. “The organic nature of the piece gives it an impressive look. We were able to achieve a highly contemporary aesthetic without the typical high cost and high construction effort. The best aspect of Seeyond is the inherent design flexibility of the solution. We hope to use it again whenever the opportunity arises.”

According to the company, Seeyond ceiling installations offer a number of distinct advantages to alternative approaches for ceiling treatments, including:

  • The cellular resin material used in Seeyond clouds has an incredible strength-to-weight ratio with a one-pound-per-square-foot weight.
  • The Seeyond cloud solution can accommodate any existing substrates and infrastructure, including installed life-safety equipment.
  • The tessellated nature of the Seeyond cloud features allows for easy removal of any of the modules for instant maintenance access to what lies above.
  • Every Seeyond installation features hidden hardware, thereby delivering a clean and elegant tessellated aesthetic.
  • Every Seeyond specialty feature is created with the opportunity for infinite customization and complete flexibility throughout the design process.

Further, the Seeyond solution can be an ideal approach for efficiently creating organic shape and complex form. Ceilings in particular are generating significant interest and gaining sales traction, likely due to both their dramatic aesthetic and their efficient functionality, notes the company.

“The many distinct advantages of a Seeyond ceiling cloud create a compelling case,” said Kirby Rea, general manager at Seeyond. “Because no additional infrastructure is required for installation as every Seeyond feature is self-structuring, our cloud solution is incredibly appealing to architects and designers. It’s an easy way through what is often a complex situation—a situation that involves working around existing structures and critical equipment.”
