by Shane Henson — March 15, 2013—Serco Global Services, a company focused on improving the quality and efficiency of essential services for public and private entities worldwide, recently announced the opening of a business process outsourcing (BPO) delivery center in Cape Town, South Africa.
The center, located in the Cape Town Central Business District, is expected to accommodate more than 500 new employees and serve a range of international and domestic customers in sectors such as banking, insurance and retail. The Cape Town operation will complement Serco’s existing 100 global BPO centers across geographies that include the United Kingdom, India and Poland, offering high-quality English and other European language skills to Serco’s customers around the world, says the company.
Serco says that with experience spanning a number of decades, its solutions are industry specific. So, whether the client is a bank with a requirement to improve the quality of its mortgage portfolio, a city council with a need to better its local services, an airline with a need to reduce overall cost of operations, or handling large workforce transfers and managing confidential data, Serco can build customized solutions assisted by industry subject matter experts. These experts span banking and financial services, insurance, hospitality, telecom, retail, travel, automotive, local and central government verticals, points out the company.
While Serco operates globally, the company made a strategic decision in choosing where to locate its BPO delivery center.
“In recent years, South Africa has emerged as a key global BPO destination with a highly skilled labor force and state-of-the-art infrastructure. In addition, we expect the domestic market to offer important opportunities, especially in the country’s established industries such as banking, financial services and insurance, telecom, manufacturing and mining,” explained Susir Kumar, executive chairman of Serco.
Serco adds that it has also developed wide-ranging skills in facilities management through working with leading companies around the world. The company’s business in the private sector is dominated by multiservice facilities management contracts that cover a whole host of requirements. Typically, these could include everything from reception services to catering, cleaning to chauffer services, and maintenance to store management.
