by Shane Henson — September 19, 2012—Whether space is owned or rented, effective occupancy management is vital to every organization, from optimizing space utilization to planning and managing internal moves. Service Works Group, an international provider of estates and facilities management software, has introduced a new module, QFM Space, to meet this need.
QFM Space is a Web-based space management application. Even facilities managers who do not consider themselves highly creative may find it easy and perhaps even fun to use this software. Occupancy data can be viewed and overlaid onto graphical floor plans to optimize resource, facilities and space management, the company says. Occupancy costs can be allocated to departments and charge-back information generated automatically.
The graphic presentation of information makes it easier not only to manage space but to scenario plan—moving individuals or departments or turning cellular space into open plan, for example.
The software is extremely configurable and delivers a high degree of functionality for all system users, regardless of their location. The application provides high-performance displays of floor plans with full zoom and pan functionality. Unlike traditional Web “drawing viewers,” which only allow users to view static drawings, QFM Space displays live dynamic data and, where required, users are able to update this information directly over the Web.
QFM Space also fully integrates with AutoCAD. Through integration with AutoCAD, QFM Space provides accurate insight into space utilization, with the ability to update this information in real-time, to support accurate move management and scenario planning.
Also, the company notes that as more organizations adopt flexible working practices, space management becomes more intricate. QFM Space provides corresponding functionality, including a hoteling module that allows employees to reserve a workspace by selecting it on the floor plan for the date and time required. This provides clear visibility of an employee’s location and the availability of supporting resources and services. The hoteling module maximizes the use of shared workspace, enables employees to find easily a place to work or meet, avoids double bookings, improves communication and optimizes staff productivity.
