Shaw’s Anso nylon, used in carpet and other products, wins Cradle to Cradle certification

by Rebecca Walker — August 27, 2008—Shaw’s Anso nylon brand has received Cradle To Cradle Silver Certification from McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry, a third party certifier.

Anso joins the firm’s Zeftron and Eco Solution Q fibers, which also have silver certification. Shaw is the only firm with three fibers with the MBDC certification, according to the company.

All Anso nylon products are made of Type 6 nylon (Nylon 6). Nylon 6 is used in such applications as residential and commercial carpet, as well as other products.

Evergreen Nylon Recycling, Shaw’s nylon recycling operation in Augusta, GA, employs patented technology that converts post-consumer Nylon 6 carpet into caprolactam, the building block of this fiber. Evergreen is designed to utilize post-consumer carpets in a cradle-to-cradle, closed-loop process.

The sustainable cradle-to-cradle process allows Shaw’s and Anso’s Type 6 nylon fibers to be recycled over and over again without the loss of any aesthetic or performance properties. Anso nylon is a natural choice for MBDC C2C certification.
