by Brianna Crandall — November 3, 2010—Siemens Government Services (SGS), an integrator of Siemens’ products, services and solutions to the federal government, recently announced that it received a $38.5 million task order award from the General Services Administration (GSA) to implement energy efficiency improvements to 39 federal government facilities across the Greater Southwest Region (Region 7).
The Department of Energy (DOE) Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) will be managed and delivered from SGS through Siemens Industry, Inc.’s Building Technologies Division, which has more than 110 branch locations and some 9,000 employees in the U.S.
During the 26-month implementation period, Siemens will deliver renewable energy and building automation systems including solar photovoltaic generating technologies and sophisticated heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), advanced irrigation, and lighting control systems. Water-conserving plumbing and energy-efficient lighting fixtures, heating and cooling system upgrades. Building envelope improvements such as thermal pane windows and insulation will also be installed during the construction phase.
When the construction phase is complete, the project’s comprehensive list of improvements is expected to yield the equivalent of $1.7 million in guaranteed energy savings in the program’s first year—an amount projected to increase to an aggregate $2.6 million annually under the savings performance targets set by the individual performance contracts in Region 7. Retrofitting and building upgrade projects are now underway in several facilities and are scheduled to be completed October 2012.
