Singapore BCA recognizes excellence in universal design

by Brianna Crandall — April 25, 2011—The Singapore Building and Construction Authority (BCA) has announced the 2011 recipients of its Universal Design Awards, which recognize good practices and special efforts taken to raise awareness of the importance of providing a seamlessly accessible built environment for all.

Building owners and developers are the principal recipients of the Awards. Entries were judged on connectivity, accessibility, user friendliness, safety, integrated design, and operations and maintenance, with a bonus for innovation and enhancement.

The 2011 Universal Design Award winners and categories are:

GOLD

  • Institutional Building: Khoo Teck Puat Hospital At Yishun

SILVER

  • Outdoor Spaces and Structures: Sentosa Boardwalk
  • Outdoor Spaces and Structures: Marina Barrage
  • Open Category: Paya Lebar Mass Rapid Transport Interchange Station
  • Commercial Building: Mapletree Business City
  • Residential Building: Rivervista @ Kallang

BRONZE

  • Residential Building: Strathmore Green
  • Residential Building: Dover Gardens
  • Residential Building: Golden Jasmine
  • Open Category: Nicoll Highway MRT Station
  • Residential Building: Tribeca
  • Commercial Building: Marina Bay Financial Centre Commercial Phase One
  • Outdoor Spaces and Structures: Skybridge and Rain Shelters Between Queen’s Close And Mei Chin Road
