by Ann Withanee — January 17, 2011—SIS-USA, Inc., brings a new line of classroom workstations to the field of education. Called up.grade, the line presents a wide array of benefits to students, educators, administrations, custodians and community alike.

The up.grade line of classroom desks and chairs is based on a simple “quill” wedge stem mechanism similar to that employed in bicycle handlebars. An Allen wrench is the only tool required to adjust the height of any desk and any chair to accommodate student sizes ranging from kindergarten through higher learning, including adult education.

Desk heights are adjustable from 23.5 inches to 35 inches from floor to surface. Standard base chairs are adjustable from 12 inches to 19 inches (floor to seat top) and chairs with casters adjust from 14 inches to 21 inches.

What’s more, says SIS-USA, the complete basic line has only three components: surface, leg and chair. This concept not only provides creative flexibility, but also offers exceptional space-saving storage. Very little space is required to store the three components.

In addition to rectangular desktops, other possible shapes are tooth, wave, scale and double, with custom also possible. Desks can be arranged traditionally or in such configurations as circles, quads and more.

A non-incremental locking wedge mechanism permits full height adjustment from kindergarten through adult. Cantilevered desk legs provide more foot room and leg freedom. Lockable casters at the front edge of each desk provide effortless mobility for quick changes in arrangements. The offset foot design allows desks to nest while keeping the surface away from walls to prevent marking.

Also adjustable, up.grade chair backs adjust both horizontally and vertically, responding to body movement. The molded shell back has two finger holes for moving and lifting chairs with ease. Air holes help control moisture and heat relief and provide for spinal comfort and ergonomic support. The seat incorporates a waterfall edge for additional comfort behind the knee. Casters can be added for mobility at any time. By simply removing the back, the up.grade chair becomes a stool.
