by Ann Withanee — July 4, 2011—Skanska has secured the assignment to construct the expansion of the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware. The contract amounts to $215 million (SEK 1.3 billion). Skanska is currently completing the Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando, Florida for the same client.

The project is a five-story, 40,000-square-meter, 144-bed expansion to the existing Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children. The project includes a 10,000-square-meter, 188-car ground-level parking garage below the new addition. The first floor will contain a new emergency department, atrium, retail, and dining facility. The expansion will be connected back to the existing facility with a three-story connecting link.

Construction will begin in September of this year and is scheduled for completion in late 2013.
