by Shane Henson — June 22, 2011—New vitreous china wash-down retrofit urinals from Sloan Valve Company offer commercial facilities undergoing restroom renovations a way to upgrade to more water-efficient flushing while minimizing the effort of replacing existing urinals, the company announced.

The new retrofit urinals are available in three water-efficient models, which can be matched with various Sloan sensor-activated or manual flushometers. The footprint of the wash-down retrofit urinals has been enlarged to help hide original fixture caulk lines and damage from older fixtures. Additionally, the rim-to-outlet dimensions have been optimized to eliminate the need to change the rough-in of the drain in order to maintain the correct height in most cases.

“Building owners and facilities management are more interested than ever in renovating their restrooms -not just to update the look of the restrooms, but to gain greater efficiencies,” says Sherry Davenport, executive director of marketing for Sloan. “Retrofitting restrooms with water-efficient fixtures significantly cuts water consumption and preserves this precious resource, while reducing water and wastewater utility bills.”

In addition to being WaterSense compliant, the retrofit urinals are among the first plumbing products to be certified under the new IAPMO R&T Inc. Green Certification program, Sloan officials say. The Green Certification program identifies and tests products that are water efficient based on water use reduction when compared to the water-use baseline indicated in each specification.
