by Ann Withanee — June 3, 2011—Building on the Royal flushometer family, Sloan Valve Company has redesigned its electronic Royal ES-S flushometer models to allow for an important optional feature: non-hold open True Mechanical Manual Override functionality. Driven by active infrared technology, the feature on water closet and urinal flushometers provides hands-free operation while enabling a means to flush manually in the case of a power outage, cleaning/service needs or user preference.
This approach is also applied to concealed flushometers with or without a wall box. The Royal wall box has been reduced in size and given an aesthetic makeover, simplifying installation as well. Flushometers use an inline handle to flush urinals, using water pressure from the water supply system rather than gravity from a raised tank.
Exposed flushometers, which now include a wall flange, are easier and quicker to install. The wall flange makes it versatile enough to be used in any application and is adaptable to fit various design styles. This makes the ES-S series as easy to install as a manual flushometer.
Sloan has also consolidated the ES-S wall plate options, allowing the same wall plates to work with multiple Royal ES-S flushometer models. Besides creating a consistent appearance throughout a facility, having fewer wall plates simplifies installation and minimizes contractor and distributor stocking issues because fewer wall plate styles need to be stocked.
