SMED and Interface AR officially become Haworth

September 17, 2004—Calgary-based SMED International, and Grand Rapids-based Interface AR are formally changing their names to Haworth. SMED has been a member of the Haworth organization since January 2000, while Interface AR was acquired by Haworth in September 2003. The two companies round out Haworths recently formed North American business sector entering the construction industry as proven solutions.

This name change allows the companies to join its parent company on a global playing field. The Haworth name is known globally with facilities in N. America, Europe, Asia, and Australia.

The adaptable and sustainable workspaces developed by SMED (moveable walls, low-profile raised access flooring, plug & play technology, furniture and lighting) will continue to be built in the Calgary facility. Falkridge, an architectural jewel and client conference center tucked in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, also remains a part of Haworth as a destination for clients, architects, and designers from around the world.

Interface AR, a maker of adjustable raised flooring with its unique TecCrete floor tile continues to be produced in the Grand Rapids facility. The addition of TecCrete gives Haworth clients further sustainability and performance by having pre-terminated, plug & play technology and air control easily accessible under the floor.

Each company has a specialty servicing customers with architectural products and has helped Haworths evolution from a workstation to workspace provider. A new sub-brand titled Haworth Architectural Interiors has been created to define this business sector.
